🚐✨ Vanlife Part 6:
- Walmart、Cracker Barrel、Cabela’s(需詢問 Manager)
(Rest Area)
- Bureau of Land Management(BLM)土地
- Campgrounds(合法營地)
(Neighborhood Street)
📸 Camera +
I’m just resting and will move.”

🚐✨ Vanlife Part 6 — Where Can You Sleep Legally? When Do Police Knock?
More people are choosing Vanlife, but the big questions are always:
- 🌙 “Where is it legal to sleep in my car?”
- 🚓 “Will the police knock on my window?”
- 🅿 “Which places are safe for overnight parking?”
🟢 1. Places where sleeping in your car is usually legal
- Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Cabela’s — Ask the manager.
- 24-hour gyms (Planet Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness) — Safe if you’re a member.
- Highway Rest Areas — Allowed for short rest (not long-term).
- BLM Land — Legal, spacious, and quiet.
- Campgrounds — Safest and fully legal.
🔴 2. Places you should NEVER sleep (police will knock)
- Neighborhood streets — No.1 police knock location.
- School & church parking lots
- Mall parking lots
- Downtown streets — Cameras + heavy patrol.
⚠️ 3. When do police knock?
- 🚨 You’re parked in a “No Overnight Parking” zone
- 👀 Someone reported your vehicle as suspicious
- 🕵️ Your van looks like long-term occupancy (curtains, solar panel, clutter)
Being knocked is not a crime. Police usually just ask you to move.
⭐ 4. How to avoid getting knocked
- Arrive late → leave early
- Use magnetic blackout shades instead of curtains
- Keep lights dim
- Never cook or wash outside your vehicle
- Keep the outside clean
- Where Can You Sleep Legally
🌈 5. If police knock, what do you do?
- Stay calm
- Lower the window a bit
- Say politely: “I’m just resting—I’ll move now.”
- Drive to a legal overnight spot
⚡ A police knock ≠ a crime.
