Is SuperRich in Bangkok Worth It? My Real Experience Exchanging 160,000 THB

One of the happiest parts of this Thailand trip was not shopping, and not even the business portion of the trip itself. It was this:

I actually brought the money back into my own hands.

On this trip, I went to SuperRich in Bangkok to exchange cash. What stayed with me was not just the exchange rate. It was the feeling of control. In the past, this rental income felt like money that existed somewhere else. It was there, but it did not fully feel like money I had actively collected and organized. This time was different.

Why I specifically chose SuperRich

For many travelers, exchanging money in Thailand is just a small travel errand. They exchange enough for meals, transportation, and daily spending. My situation was different. I was dealing with a more noticeable amount of money, so I did not want to casually exchange it at the airport or just accept “good enough.”

That is why I chose SuperRich. It has long been one of the better-known exchange options in Bangkok, especially when the amount is large enough that a small difference in exchange rate can actually matter.

My thinking was simple:

If I am already here, why should I work against my own money?

Whether it is worth it is not just about the rate

When people talk about currency exchange, they usually focus only on the rate. But in real life, whether it is worth it depends on more than numbers:

  • how much money you are exchanging,
  • whether you are already going through Bangkok anyway,
  • whether it matters to you to actually hold and control the money yourself, and
  • whether you will be returning to Thailand again soon.

If you are only exchanging a small amount for meals and taxis, then no, you probably do not need to overthink it. But if the amount is meaningful, as it was for me, then making the extra effort can absolutely be worth it.

The biggest difference for me: having money is not the same as holding it

My biggest takeaway was not really about SuperRich itself. It was about how I felt about the money once I exchanged it.

Before, this rental income felt like money that existed “over there.” It was technically mine, but it did not feel fully under my control in a practical way.

This time, once I actually exchanged it, sorted it, and held it, the feeling changed immediately.

This was now money I could see, hold, plan with, and move on my own terms.

That difference matters. Assets existing somewhere is one thing. Cash flow that you have actively brought under your control is something else.

Did it feel safe? My answer: be careful, but do not scare yourself

Whenever cash is involved, the first question is usually safety. Is it safe? Is it risky?

My personal answer is: yes, you should be careful, but no, you do not need to scare yourself unnecessarily.

If you go to a well-known exchange location, follow a normal process, and do not draw unnecessary attention to yourself, it can be perfectly manageable. I was not doing something random or improvised. I knew why I was there and what I was doing, so mentally I felt steady.

What matters more is what you do afterward:

  • how you separate the cash,
  • how much you keep in one place,
  • what your next stop is, and
  • whether you move somewhere secure right after the exchange.

That part matters more than simply worrying in the abstract.

Who should consider going to SuperRich?

I think it makes the most sense for people who:

  • are exchanging a larger amount,
  • are already going through Bangkok,
  • care about exchange-rate differences, and
  • want to bring overseas cash flow back under personal control.

But if you are on a short trip, only exchanging a small amount, and already pressed for time, then it may not be worth forcing the detour. Time and energy are also real costs.

What made me happiest was not just the rate

When I thought back on it, the best part was not just getting a better rate.

It was this:

I stopped treating that money as something that could just sit there.

In the past, I might have thought, “It is fine, I can deal with it later.” This time, I felt very clearly:

It is better to actually have the money in hand.

Not because of greed, and not because I was suddenly desperate for it, but because when cash flow that already belongs to you is actually returned to your hands, the sense of freedom and control is very real.

My conclusion: if the amount is meaningful and you are already there, yes, it is worth it

If you ask me whether going to SuperRich in Bangkok was worth it, my answer is simple:

If the amount is meaningful and you are already going through Bangkok, yes, it is worth it.

What makes it worthwhile is not only the exchange rate. It is the fact that you are no longer letting that money sit somewhere passively. You are actively bringing it back into your own control.

For me, this was not just exchanging cash. It was reclaiming a piece of my cash flow.

And that felt really good.
