1️⃣ Liability Insurance(第三方責任險)

2️⃣ Collision Damage Waiver(CDW / LDW)

3️⃣ Supplemental Liability Insurance(SLI)

1️⃣ Personal Accident Insurance(PAI)

2️⃣ Personal Effects Coverage(PEC)

🚗🇺🇸 Renting a Car in the U.S.: Insurance You MUST Buy vs Optional Coverage

When traveling or visiting the U.S. for business, many people rent a car from airport rental counters such as Hertz, Avis, Budget, or Enterprise. The most confusing part is always the insurance — which ones are required, which ones are optional, and which ones look cheap but have hidden risks?

🟦 1. Insurance You SHOULD Buy (Highly Recommended)

1️⃣ Liability Insurance

This is the most important coverage. If you hit another car, a person, or any property, this insurance pays for it.
Basic state minimum (e.g., $15,000 / $30,000 in California) is far too low for international travelers, so always purchase additional coverage.

2️⃣ Collision Damage Waiver (CDW / LDW)

This covers damage to the rental car — from hitting a wall, a pole, or even a small scratch.
⚠️ Without CDW, the rental company will charge your credit card for all repairs.

3️⃣ Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

SLI increases your liability limit to $300,000–$1,000,000.
For serious accidents, this is essential.

🟩 2. Optional Insurance

1️⃣ Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

If you already have travel medical insurance or international health coverage, you may not need this.

2️⃣ Personal Effects Coverage (PEC)

This protects personal belongings such as laptops or luggage. Many credit cards or travel insurance plans already offer similar coverage.

🟨 3. Important Notes

  • We provide general information only; please confirm details directly with the rental company.
  • Insurance rules vary by state, rental company, and rental package.
  • Some premium credit cards (e.g., Chase Sapphire) include CDW, but usually not liability insurance.
  • Rental company insurance is not a scam; some are necessary, some optional.

✔ Our recommendation: Always buy: Liability + SLI + CDW.
Other coverages are optional depending on your needs.
